![]() There's an authenticity within all of the main characters which makes them all work so well. Spradling does a great job at allowing you to fall in love with the characters, regardless of them all having visible flaws. I just felt like she was an MC that you could root for, which was amazing as a lot of my recent reads have had main characters that I haven't been able to completely attach to. When things go wrong, and, let's face it, Wren doesn't really get much of a break, she is mature and willing to forgive and move on to a certain extent rather than holding grudges. Wren is an amazing main character and I absolutely loved her she isn't willing to be a damsel in distress and she isn't about to go and let those around her dictate her fate. But The Obsidian Sword felt longer in a good way and I finished the book fully immersed in the world and devastated that I wasn't able to read more of their story! In shorter reads, it is easy for the pacing to get lost along with the narrative and things begin to feel rushed, but this wasn't the case at all. I honestly cannot believe that it was only 327 pages because you feel as if you're going through the journey with the characters and that same timeline. Regardless of what it was, The Obsidian Sword has fully dragged me out of it. I've been in an awful reading slump this month and I was beginning to think that it was me, rather than the books that I was reading. Spradling's debut novel, The Obsidian Sword. If you loved the artefacts and amplifiers in The Mortal Instruments & Shadow & Bone, alongside the concept of soulmates in books such as A Court of Thorns and Roses, then you will love Whitney L. ![]() I just need to start by saying that this book is such a strong five stars that I do not know how this book has not been given the hype that it deserves yet. I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC copy of The Obsidian Sword in exchange for an honest review. I’m excited to see where this series goes. I actually quite like how the author handled the sex scenes. Also the spice? Completely and totally unexpected! I’ve gotten so used to fade to black scenes, that these took me by total surprise and they were tastefully done, without ridiculous detail, but also NOT fade to black. Dark, sexy, and mysterious with a past you don’t delve into until halfway through the book. Silas is just the kind of male main character I absolutely love. Wren is a strong and sure character, and her emotions in certain aspects are completely valid and relatable, but she remains strong. I enjoyed that, although some of the plot was predictable, which I’m totally okay with, and enjoyed that I was right. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of the light and dark fae and how they once worked together but are now estranged. I enjoy some romance in my books, and this one-although very much a focal point-was woven into the plot really wonderfully. Their relationship is nice with some slow burn and heated moments that were sexy and done well. I really liked Silas and enjoyed the two characters together. Great for those that are looking for a YA read with more heat and older themes (this one has some darker themes that may be a trigger, but they are done and spoken of decently and not cringy). This is the definition of NA fantasy romance. ![]() Wren seems slightly immature for 21 but otherwise, I enjoyed her character. This one gets a glowing review! I was captivated instantly and remained that way throughout. Greater Obsidian Arrows - arrows that use blaze rods to propel themselves forward to deal greater damage, gains +70% damage against obsidian mobs, 1 obsidian ingot + 1 obsidian block + 1 blaze rod = 3 Greater Obsidian ArrowsĪlso adding Blaze Rods to the loot box would be great.I wasn’t expecting to be swept into this tale so thoroughly but was truly pleasantly surprised. Obsidian Arrows - standard obsidian arrow but gains +20% damage against obsidian mobs (stacks with Obsidian Bow), 1 obsidian block + 9 sticks + 9 feathers = 9 Obsidian Arrows Obsidian Bow - standard obsidian bow but gains +30% damage against obsidian mobs, enchantable Obsidian Excavator - excavates/flattens a 3 x 3 area of soil-type blocks (uses 9 obsidian shovels as recipe, same conditions) Obsidian Hammer - excavates a 3 x 3 area of stone-type blocks and minerals (uses 9 obsidian pickaxes as recipe, inherits the durability/use counts of all the base materials), orientation changes based on which direction the block is hit Thank you! Here's a few ideas from the other mods I also use.
